Changes are coming to your water services

In December 2023, the Government announced new policy and legislation for water services (drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services) called Local Water Done Well. It focuses on delivering better, financially sustainable, and affordable water services while retaining local control of water assets.

Local Water Done Well recognises the importance of keeping decision making and control over water services and assets local. At the same time, it is designed to ensure a strong emphasis on meeting water quality standards and investment in infrastructure.

The framework for Local Water Done Well and preliminary arrangements for the new water services system have been created through legislation. These changes lay the foundation for a new approach to water services management and financially sustainable delivery models that meet regulatory standards.
